REDISCOVER THE PAST,
EMBRACING THE FUTURE

A FAMILY
STORY

In 1967, Giuseppe Bombi and Severino Maccaferri created an Italian icon destined to conquer the world: the Cinzia folding bicycle. Starting as painters for the most prestigious motorcycle manufacturers, Giuseppe and Severino had a vision that would change their destiny: to design a folding bicycle with 20-inch wheels, offering a more stable and secure ride.

In that moment, a new player was born. Over the course of 54 years, Cinzia would become one of the most influential players in the Italian cycling industry. A timeless symbol of Italian craftsmanship, a leader and trailblazer in a constantly evolving sector.

BORN TO LEAVE A MARK

In 1901, at 14 years old, Primo Bombi discovered his unusual passion: painting. With a sharp vision and extraordinary creativity, Primo quickly stood out and, within a few years, joined Maserati Auto, one of the most iconic symbols of Italian elegance in the automotive industry.

Primo shared many stories, but the one that left the deepest impression was the ritual of completing each paint job. He loved to recount that, after the mechanic’s work was done, it was his “final touch” that made the car unique.

This distinctive touch, then as now, continues to embody the soul and tradition of the Bolognese company.

ORIGINS OF AN ICON

In 1964, inspired by the folding bicycle used by the Italian sharpshooters, the idea of a portable one quickly won over the public. Giuseppe Bombi and Severino Maccaferri, captured by the innovation, immediately saw its potential. They decided to make few key enhancements: larger wheels for greater stability, a more comfortable handlebar, and metallic paint for a distinctive touch.

True to their nature, they began working with dedication, designing the future of the new Cinzia and laying the foundation for a journey that would leave a lasting mark on the history of bicycles.

A NAME, A TRADITION, A STORY OF SUCCESS

Once the product was conceived,  it was time to give it a name. It had to be feminine, a symbol of family and tradition, representing the figure who, with love and dedication, keeps generations united. A woman, because within her lies the purest essence of Italy: beauty, grace, and fertility—qualities that echo the richness of the italian landscape, steeped in history and art.

Then, fate stepped in. Giuseppe and Severino overheard the caretaker of a nearby factory calling out to his daughter: “Cinzia.” In that moment, almost unconsciously, their creation found its soul. Young, carefree, and unmistakably Italian: Cinzia was born.

1970 - 1984

FROM BOLOGNA TO EUROPE

In the 1970s, Cinzia moved to its new home in Osteria Grande, Bologna. In a short time, Cinzia grew producing up to 600 bicycles a day, and gaining recognition across Europe. The company captured the public’s heart with its exceptional quality and design, embodying authentic Italian style. Folding models were created for children, while city bikes were designed to meet the needs of a broad audience in love with the brand.

Cinzia quickly became a symbol for those seeking more than just a bicycle—an emotion, a memory, a companion for the journey. What began as a local endeavor soon won the hearts of Europeans, bringing a piece of Italy to the streets of the entire continent.

1985 - 1997

A NEW GENERATION

In the 1990s, Cinzia bicycles continued to travel across Italy, carrying with them the values of family, tradition, and simplicity that Giuseppe Bombi and Severino Maccaferri had instilled at the heart of their creation. The second generation brought new life to the company, introducing modernity and innovation while keeping the passion and historical vision of Cinzia alive.

Each bicycle, with its unique character, told a story of dedication and love for authentic beauty, celebrating tradition and the essence of its homeland.

By the 2000s, Cinzia had become a symbol of a deep connection between past and future, where family and passion go side by side, perpetuating an Italian dream passed down through generations.
